The jury for the 13 edition of the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Prize has selected the artists who will be exhibiting between 21 October 2023 and 3 March 2024 at the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Municipal Museum: Catarina Real; Daniel Moreira e Rita Castro Neves; Daniel V. Melim; Francisco Venâncio; João Marçal; Luís Silveirinha; Mariana Caló e Francisco Queimadela; Maria Trabulo; Mónica Baptista; Nuno Henrique; Paulo Brighenti; Rita Ferreira; Rita Senra; Tiago Madaleno and Virgínia Mota.
The selection phase for the works to be exhibited now begins, curated by Lígia Afonso and Samuel Silva. The selected artists and works will be the winners of the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Prize and the Library-Museum Friends Group Prize.
Made up of Raquel Henriques da Silva (Art Historian and Jubilate Full Professor), Laura Castro (PHD in ART and Design), Lígia Afonso (Researcher at the Art History Institute, PhD in Art History), Samuel Silva (Visual Artist and Professor) and Rosário Correia Machado (representing the Mayor of Amarante, José Luís Gaspar), the jury chose from the 489 artists, totalling 970 works, who applied in April and May.
The selected artists will receive 400 euros and will have priority in applications for an Artist Residency in Amarante, for the period of one to three months in 2024. The artist awarded the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Prize will receive 12,500 euros and will be invited to hold a temporary solo exhibition, with their own catalogue, at the MMASC. The winner of the Friends of the Library-Museum Group Prize will receive 7,500 euros and will be able to carry out an Artist Residency in Amarante, in accordance with the Casa da Torre (Amarante Artist Residency) regulations.
