Born in Lisbon, Ana Jotta studied at the Escola Superior das Belas Artes and the École Nationale Supériuere des Arts Visuels de La Cambre in Brussels.

She began her artistic career as an actress and set designer (1976-79) with "Produções Teatrais" (Teatro Universitário, Lisbon), but her activity ended up focusing on the visual arts, especially since the mid-1980s, having participated in exhibitations in Madrid, Brussels, Johannesburg, Barcelona, among other cities.

In 2005, she had a retrospective at the Serralves Museum, and the solo shows "A Conclusão da Precedente", at Culturgest, in 2015, and "Bónus", in 2017, in a temporary extension of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), in Lisbon, also stand out.

In 2013, she won the Fundação EDP arte Grand Prize and in 2014 she was honoured with the Associação Internacional de críticos de Arte award in the field of visual arts.

Last February, the Queen Sofia Museum bought two works from the portuguese Artist, "September Song" series at ARCOmadrid.
